2019 Square a Day – January

Welcome to my 2019 Square-a-Day project! This is part of my Project Purgatory that I’m using as motivation to use up some of my old craft supplies and finish some stalled projects. You can read more about that here.

I started this daily project as a way to do at least one crafty or creative thing every day for 2019. My loose New Year’s resolution (because I don’t often make them) was to devote more of my time to my art and get back to creating. Last year I took a creativity-draining desk job that expected long hours nearly every day and it zapped my desire to want to do anything when I got home. So now I’m taking the time to nurture my creativity and truly enjoy it. Watching this square-a-day blanket grow is so satisfying! I don’t feel like it’s a burden, even though it’s a massive amount of squares. I’m looking forward to the task of piecing it together and playing with the color scheme, but for right now I’m just taking it one day at a time 🙂

January’s Squares

I started this project off with yarn that I already had in my stash. I already had a few skeins of the aqua color, along with the other colors that paired really well with it. I picked my color scheme from my stash because this project was also meant as a way to get rid of some of my extra yarn. Although, I knew I had to buy more yarn in order to keep up with the project. But this would at least put those skeins to use and start me on a path to finishing something with them.

Because I worked on January’s squares with what I had in my stash, there was a lot of aqua squares. Seeing this month laid out, I decided that I wanted the finished blanket to be mostly ecru with the pops of color throughout. When I restocked my yarn for the next month, I made sure to buys more ecru than anything else.

So there you have it—31 little squares for the first month of 2019. I’m very happy with how these are turning out and I can’t wait to start putting them together!
